In Dr. Moreno’s latest edition of his 17 Day Diet book, The 17 Day Diet Breakthrough Edition, is the idea of contouring foods and their relationship to “spot reducing”.
Some of the foods on this list you’re probably already incorporating into your diet such as fish high in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon.
Other foods such as greener bananas, apples and pears are likely a staple in your house.
Fruits high in fiber help us stay full and metabolize sugar slower and are great for weight loss.
To clarify, Dr. Moreno explains that certain foods help trim fat from specific areas of your body.
Below are the main contour foods for each Cycle of the 17 Day Diet.
Contour Foods for Cycle 1
Here are contour foods for cycle 1 of the 17 Day Diet.
Fish contains omega-3 fatty acids which help shrink fat cells and assist in burning fat around the abdominal area.
Pears and Apples
Both fruits are high in fiber, which helps whisk excess estrogen from the body. Estrogen helps lay down fat on a woman’s lower body, namely her thighs and hips.
This friendly fat helps prevent fat from building up on the waistline.
Yogurt and the calcium it contains are known to prevent fat from congregating around your tummy.
Contour Foods for Cycle 2
In addition to the Contour foods on Cycle 1, you add in the following foods:
Studies have shown that people who eat whole grains regularly have smaller waistlines than those who avoid these foods.
This supplemental protein, which can be mixed into shakes, helps control abdominal fat, as well as fat all over the body.
Legumes are among the highest-fiber foods around. Remember, fiber reduces excess thigh-padding estrogen in the body.
Legumes are a great source of fiber and are perfect for spot reducing – I use legumes as a main source of protein in my 4-week dinner meal plan for vegetarians, Simply Veggie.
Contour Foods for Cycle 3
In addition to the Contour foods on Cycles 1 and 2, you add in the following foods:
Additional Whole Grains and High-Fiber Breakfast Cereals
These assist in burning fat around the abdominal area.
Soy contains natural substances that keep fat-storing hormones from depositing fat on thighs, hips, and stomach. (Note: Soy can be highly allergenic to some people.)
Unless it is very ripe, a banana contains a type of starch that can help the body burn fat; it’s called resistant starch because it is a fiber that resists digestion.
