Dinner Smoothie Recipe for the Transitional Day Fast for the 17 Day Diet

Smoothies are a great way to lose weight with the 17 Day Diet especially when it comes to this Dinner Smoothie for the 17 Day Diet.

When you think of smoothies, breakfast or lunch usually come to mind.

However, this dinner smoothie for the 17 Day Diet is also a great meal replacement.

Transitional Day Fast aka Smoothie Day for the 17 Day Diet

If you haven’t heard by now, the 17 Day Diet was updated back in 2014 and to include several additions for fat-burning and optimal weight loss.

One of those changes includes an optional Transitional Day Fast or better known as the “smoothie day”

In a nutshell, the Transitional Day Fast (aka smoothie day) is a special day of fat-burning smoothies in place of your regular three meals.

Dinner Smoothie Ingredients

The dinner smoothie for the 17 Day Diet Transitional Day Fast is more like a green smoothie.

The dinner smoothie ingredients include both spinach and fruit.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s included.

Spinach

Spinach is great in smoothies – you can barely taste it. Especially when your fruit is ripe.

Plus, spinach is filled with fiber, minerals and vitamins and a great superfood to add to any meal.

Spinach is a nutrient rich ingredient in many smoothie recipes for the 17 Day Diet

How to Help your Spinach Blend Smoothly

A tip for blending spinach in smoothies is to freeze your spinach ahead of time.

Using frozen fresh spinach helps allow the green to blend well (it’s basically pulverized in the blender).

Blueberries

Another main ingredient in this dinner smoothie for the 17 Day Diet is blueberries.

Blueberries are full of antioxidants and are the perfect smoothie ingredient

Blueberries are lower in sugar than most fruits, and they contain a ton of antioxidants. They are a super food!

The dinner smoothie recipe calls for frozen blueberries.

You can certainly use fresh, but frozen berries will make your smoothie colder and more “slushy”.

Substitutions for Certain Breakfast Smoothie Ingredients

It’s always best to make the smoothies as-is. The doctor formulated the smoothies with certain ingredients for a reason.

However, this dinner smoothie is a hit or miss with community members – some love it and some don’t care for it at all.

If you don’t want to be adventurous and try this smoothie with spinach, for instance, add another scoop of fiber like you did in the lunch smoothie.

If you don’t have matcha green tea powder, or if you’re concerned about the caffeine later in the evening, skip it (or use it in the lunch smoothie instead).

Whey Protein Powder for the Dinner Smoothie for Recipe for the 17 Day Diet

The recipe calls for vanilla flavored whey protein.

Many flavored protein powders will contain either sugar, artificial sweetener, or a combination of the two.

I highly recommend using a non-flavored whey protein. I use Jarrow’s unflavored whey protein.

Jarrow’s also carries a grass fed whey protein for those who prefer an even cleaner source.

Jarrows Unflavored Whey Protein is what I recommend for smoothies for the Transitional Day Fast for the 17 Day Diet

When you’re using an unflavored powder, you’re not only eating a cleaner processed food, but you’re also able to control the flavor of your smoothie.

How to Freeze the Dinner Smoothie for the 17 Day Diet

If you have time over the weekend before you start your Transitional Day Fast, you can easily make your smoothie ahead of time and freeze it when you’re ready to drink it.

Place your blended dinner smoothie in a sealable freezer bag and lay it flat in the freezer so it freezes in a thin layer for easy storing and defrosting.

When you’re ready to have your dinner smoothie, take your frozen flat smoothie bag out of the freezer the night before and allow it to defrost in the refrigerator over night.

This will not only save you time, but you’ll always have the dinner smoothie ready to go when you need it!

What Cycle is this Dinner Smoothie Approved For?

As I mention above, this dinner smoothie is part of the Transitional Day Fast when you drink three smoothies a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner).

The Transitional Day Fast can be used in between each cycle or when you have a bad few days and want to jump back onto the diet and need a quick boost in weight loss.

If you decide to drink this dinner smoothie outside of a Transitional Day Fast, then it would be appropriate for Cycle 3.

  1. Regarding the smoothie pictorials. It looks like there is a bowl of yogurt? in the picture but it’s not listed in the ingredients. Can you clarify? And what do we get for probiotic additive ?

    • UPDATE: I’ve since confirmed there is no yogurt in the ingredient list and have updated the graphic as a result. Thanks for catching this!

The graphic is very likely an error — I’ll double check the book when I get home tonight and fix the graphic if indeed there is no yogurt. Good catch! Thank you very much!

  2. If this is the dinner smoothie why is the green tea powder in this one? Doesn’t it have caffeine in it? Wouldn’t you be better off putting it in the breakfast one?

  3. Good catch! Unfortunately, I don’t think I have my original artwork to fix, so it will have to stay this way! The other two smoothies have fiber though.

  4. A friend found this website for me. I first bought the 17 Day Diet book from Dr. Moreno a few years ago. Started Cycle 1 and did lose weight but didn’t stick with it. I am more determined this time.. I’ve lost 5 lbs in five days so far on Cycle 1. Your Blog is great and has wonderful info and recipes. I told my friend that if you want to do well on this diet ( or any diet) you have to work at it…finding new recipes and info to keep you motivated. It is great to have others who are also following this diet. Love your Blog!

    • Lauren, you can have any amount of smoothies you want as long as you use 17DD compliant ingredients and keep within your 2-servings of fruit/probiotics a day. This particular smoothie is a part of the Transitional Day Fast, which comes with its own set of rules.
