How much should you exercise while on the 17 Day Diet, you may ask? Well, here’s a quick rundown by Cycle per the guidelines from the book of the same name:
Cycle 1 (Accelerate):
Two mini aerobic workouts — 17 minutes in the morning and 17 minutes in the afternoon or early evening (page 58 of the 17 Day Diet book).
2014 Update: In the 17 Day Diet Breakthrough Edition, Dr. Moreno instructs us to exercise 17 minutes a day on Cycle 1 (page 71 of the 17 Day Diet Breakthrough Edition book).
Cycle 2 (Activate):
Exercise at least 17 minutes a day (page 65)
Side Note: I’m not sure if this is a mistake in the book (there are several inconsistencies, or if the doctor intentionally has you exercising less than what’s prescribed in Cycle 1 as a way to “switch” it up so your body doesn’t get used to the same routine.
2014 Update: In the 17 Day Diet Breakthrough Edition, Dr. Moreno advises us to exercise at least 17 minutes a day on Cycle 2 (page 99 of The 17 Day Diet Breakthrough Edition).
Cycle 3 (Achieve):
Exercise at least 40 to 60 minutes per day most days of the week (page 81)
Five 30-minute sessions or 60-minute sessions per week (page 83)
Cycle 4 (Arrive):
On Saturdays and Sundays when you might consume more food, enjoy at least 1 hour of “intense, heart-pumping exercise”. Try to incorporate more “lifestyle activity” on the weekends as well such as yard work, cleaning, and moderate housework (page 112 and 113)
Now, if you want to read my take on a few things, go right ahead. You can read the blog posts about a few questions asked of me some time ago: Is it possible to gain weight if I strength train and Should I exercise more if I eat more.

Hello, with the cost of food the way it is and being on a limited budget. I can’t afford $200 in groceries, is there other options with less food
Hi Lena, I totally get the cost of groceries right now. If your budget is tight, stick to basics. Lean proteins and veggies. You can even use frozen veggies as they are usually less expensive than fresh and last longer. Buy in bulk, too, where it makes sense.
