I love sausage, but I don’t care for the store bought variety that often contains a lot of sodium and sugar (among other things). If you feel the same, then this Chicken Apple Sausage recipe is one you’ll want to add to your homemade chicken sausage recipes list!
Making apple chicken sausage is so easy! The ingredient list is short and the method is simple.
This chicken sausage recipe is versatile, so it can be enjoyed for any type of meal and I’ll give you a few ideas, so keep scrolling!
This recipe originally came from my Yummy Cycle 1 Recipe book, but I made a few changes to the ingredients before posting it here.
Ingredients for Chicken Apple Sausage
This ground Chicken Apple Sausage recipe is fairly simple to make.
It only includes a few key ingredients, which include:
- Ground lean chicken breast
- Apple
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Onion
- Garlic Powder
- Sage
Ingredient Substitutions for Ground Chicken Sausage
If you’re not a fan of ground chicken or some of the seasonings, you can easily use your favorite ingredients.
Here are a few ideas:
- Use ground turkey or pork instead of chicken
- Use your favorite herbs instead of sage
Italian Chicken Sausage
If you want this yummy Chicken Apple Sausage to have more of an Italian flavor while keeping the ingredients pretty much the same, use Italian Seasoning instead of sage (the original recipe called for Oregano, so it was pretty close).
If you want to leave out the apples and apple cider vinegar, you can certainly do so.
You can also add a little fennel seed if your heart desires!
How to Cook Chicken Sausage Patties
This particular recipe calls for using a skillet to cook your chicken sausage.
On medium high heat, you’ll cook your ground chicken sausage patties for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature of your chicken reaches 165 degrees F.
Chicken Sausage In Air Fryer
If you want to use your air fryer, you can easily do so with this recipe! How long do I cook chicken sausage in the air fryer? Well, here are the steps:
- Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees F for at least three minutes
- Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray
- Gently place the chicken patties in the air fryer and lightly spray the top with olive oil spray if you want them a little extra crispy
- Air fry for 8 minutes, flipping half way
Remember, all air fryers cook differently, so your cooking time might need to be adjusted.
If your air fryer basket is fairly small and you need to cook in batches, you can use your regular oven at 200 degrees F to keep your sausages warm while you cook in batches.
Chicken Breakfast Sausage
This Ground Chicken Apple Sausage recipe was originally created with breakfast in mind.
You can serve the sausage with eggs, any style.
If you’re not a fan of eggs, you can easily serve this sausage with a low carb waffle or pancakes made with almond or coconut flour.
You can also serve this sausage with low carb toast using my 90 Second Low Carb Keto Bread recipe (the bread definitely tastes best toasted).
You can also use the same keto bread to make a toasty sausage and egg sandwich like you see at McDonald’s.
As you can see, you can serve this Chicken Apple Sausage all different types of ways for breakfast!
What to Make With Chicken Sausage
If breakfast sausage isn’t your thing and you want to serve this for lunch or dinner, here are a few ideas:
- Chicken Apple Sausage Pasta
- Chicken Sausage and Peppers
- Chicken Apple Sausage crumbled over Salad Greens (use my Apple Cider Vinaigrette recipe)
